Stardew Valley Unlock More Animals

Stardew Valley Unlock More Animals

In this Stardew Valley animals guide, you'll learn about all the animals you can have on your farm. Below you'll find info about coop and barn animals, what you can place inside the Slime Hutch, and how to feed and pet animals.

A game about bringing an old farm to its former glory wouldn't be complete without some animals to take care of. In Stardew Valley, you can get a wide array of coop and barn-dwelling animals, either by purchasing them directly from Marnie's Ranch or by finding their eggs and then hatching them in an incubator. Below you'll find all the different types of animals you can have on your farm.

Barn

One of the farm buildings you can have on your farm is the coop (you can learn here how to get a coop in Stardew Valley). The coop initially houses only chickens, but it can be upgraded to unlock other animals like ducks and rabbits. Bellow, you'll find a list of all the coop-dwelling animals available in Stardew Valley, as well as what they produce.

Besides Coops, you can also ask Robin to Build a Barn on your farm (you go to our how-to guide section to learn how to get a barn.)

Initially, you'll only have cows in the barn, but you can later upgrade it to house other types of animals like pigs or ostrich. Below you can find all the barn-dwelling animals available in Stardew Valley, as well as what they can produce.

While Slimes are not technically animals, you can have them on your farm if you ask robin to build you a Slime Hutch.

These slimes will be as dangerous as the ones you'll find while exploring the mines but they'll produce Slime Balls that you can interact with to obtain slime or petrified slime.

Feeding animals is really easy; all you have to do is take a piece of hay for each animal you have and place it on the feeding bench inside the coop or the barn. You'll have to repeat this process to ensure your animals are well-fed and happy each day.

To keep your animals happy, you'll have to feed and pet them daily. Petting animals allows you to increase your friendship level with them. You'll want to do this since some species like cows or ducks will produce better quality and large or deluxe products if you have a high enough friendship with them.

To pet animals, just get close to the one you want to pet and right-click on it; keep in mind that you'll only be able to pet an animal once a day.

In this Stardew Valley Animals guide, you'll learn which barn-dwelling animals are in the game, how to get animals in the barn, and what type of produce barn animals make.

Things Stardew Valley Does Better Than Animal Crossing

Once you ask Robin to build you a barn, you can unlock all sorts of animals. You can have cows, goats, ostrich, sheep, and pigs on your farm.

Cows are the first barn-dwelling animals you'll have on your farm since all you'll need to unlock them is an empty barn on your farm.

After Robin finishes building your barn, you can go to Marnie's Ranch to buy a cow for 1, 500g. Cows come in two different colors, white and brown, but unlike chickens, the color of the cow won't affect its produce.

Cows take five nights to grow up. Afterward, they'll produce milk every day. Before you can milk them, you'll have to purchase a Milk Pail from Marnie's Ranch.

Moreover, cows that have a high-enough friendship level with you will produce Large Milk instead of the regular one. This is important since you'll need that item to complete one of the bundles in the Community Center.

Goats are the other milk-producing animals available in Stardew Valley, but these will be unlocked later in the game when you upgrade your Barn into a Big Barn.

Stardew Valley Golden Chicken

To get a goat on your farm, you'll have to own a Big Barn that has less than eight animals inside. If that's your case, then simply go to Marnie's Ranch and purchase one goat for 4, 000g; a little goat will be sent to your farm, where it'll grow after five nights have passed.

Grown goats will produce goat milk every two days; just like with cows, you'll need a Milk Pail to milk your goats. Moreover, happy goats who have a high enough friendship level with you will produce large goat milk instead of regular-sized ones.

While you'll need one large goat milk to complete one of the Community Center bundles, you can sell the rest or put one inside a Cheese Press to make Goat Cheese.

Ostriches are a peculiar case. While they lay eggs like most coop-dwelling animals, they're so big they need to be in a barn instead of a coop.

Sadly getting an ostrich isn't as easy as going to Marnie's Ranch and buying it from here; instead, you'll have to find an ostrich egg first and then place it on the incubators inside Big and Deluxe Barns.

Stardew

To get an ostrich egg, you'll have to find Journal Scrap #10 (which is another one of the Journal Scraps scattered around Ginger Island) and dig up the treasure.  Alternatively, you could come across an ostrich egg in one of the chests found in the Volcano Dungeon.

Animal Care Guide

Well-fed and care-for ostriches will lay eggs every seven days. You can do many things with these eggs, like sell them for 600g, place them inside the incubator to get more ostriches, or put them inside a Mayonnaise Machine to get ten regular Mayonnaise.

Sheep will be available to purchase from Marnie's Ranch after you've upgraded your Big barn to a Deluxe Barn. Each one will cost 8, 000g.

A grown sheep that's well-fed will grow its coat every three days; you can then shave it using Shears to obtain Wool.

Some factors can reduce the time it takes for a sheep to grow its coat, like having a 4.5 friendship with the animal or having the Shepherd Profession.

Pigs are one of the most expensive animals you can have on your farm. However, you'll need them if you want to get Truffles to make Oil or complete one of the bundles in the Community Center.

You'll be able to purchase pigs after upgrading a Big Barn into a Deluxe Barn; after you do that, go to Marnie's Ranch, where you'll be able to buy pigs for 16, 000g each.

A mature pig will find Truffles every day, but only if the conditions are met. Besides being well-fed, you'll need to make sure that:

Another thing you should keep in mind is that the Truffles will spawn outside the barn, so you'll have to look for them.
