Welcome to the final of a three-part article series, where I'll be closing out the season with a detailed statistical breakdown of which shows kicked ass and which bombed spectacularly. In this volume of the Summer 2020 Round-up, I'll be covering the most important factor of them all: each anime's overall score and how they changed from their respective premieres!

It does feel a little empty to label Anime of the Season due to, well, the emptiness of new shows, but that won't stop me from giving these anime, good and bad, the recognition they deserve. I'll begin with a broad overview before proceeding to actually crowning the best sequel, best debut, and honorable mention(s).

If you think about it, this list is a microcosm of our current pandemic situation, since the mass withdrawal of new anime has further stretched the class divide between the upper and lower echelons in score.... but right, yes, you're here for the anime.

Suffered an early setback with a divided reception to its second episode, falling 0.27 points to 7.08, but it steadily clawed its way back up to finish as the highest-rated debut anime of Summer 2020. Meanwhile,

Began with a blaze but eventually burned out with a similar trajectory to the first season, which sputtered from 8.13 to 7.75 within a similar timeframe.

This residual list includes a mix of latter cours, delayed seasonals from Spring, and a long-running anime finally wrapping up after 50 episodes.

I typically like to incorporate a range of statistics in these decisions, more than just which anime had the highest score, but

But, due to the difference in user behaviours between sequels and non-sequels, I must also reward a top debut anime (though it's a very small pool to choose from).

Edges it out for me with how it aimed for the sky with something truly unique and triumphantly soared above its initial setbacks.

Couldn't quite take it home in the end for Best Sequel, but it still brought a beloved franchise, a romantic dramady no less, to a rare satisfying end.

To ensure data equality and the inclusion of two-cour anime, all data points are taken from one week after episode 10. Like before, there are a few shows missing due to lack of data or tampering.

In case you're new around these parts, Total members incorporates all users who have the anime listed as Watching, Completed, On-Hold, Dropped, or Plan to Watch. The +% figure is measured between episode 0 (i.e. just before the premiere) and episode 10 for Total, whereas Watching is measured from one week after episode 1.

Naturally, sequels tend to start a season with a higher reserve of Plan to Watch members (thereby lower Total growth than debut anime), but that doesn't always translate into actual viewers. It worked out very well for

I bet this thread won't be salty at all :D

My Hero Academia Is Overrated.

Yea I didn't watch a single one of them since they seemed uninteresting, I've seen previous seasons of Kaguya-sama, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Mob Psycho, Shingeki no Kyojin and JoJo so I do have some knowledge about half the list atleast.

4 anime that are also in my top 10 of the year and only 2 irredeemable garbage (sadly the #1 spot), a pretty good list all things considered.

Really sad how freaking made in abyss, which is my anime of the year, didn't even make it to the top 10.

Everyone saying Bleach is the top anime because of animation alone is hilarious 😂, y'all mad cause a shounen anime is #1. Pipe down and do yourself a favour and read the manga lil pup, TYBW >. Even though FMAB does not qualify for the list know the fans salty asf cause bleach still rated higher even after the mass 1's.

It's just fine, nothing spectacular but nothing that i'll be writing an entire essay over as to why it's the worst show conceived since the dawn of time.

Spy x Family being the last after people talk about it and Chainsaw Man right behind it with all the hype gives me joy.

It's alright. Most of them are pretty popular but there are a few surprises for me: Kingdom and JoJo part 6. Part 6 of Jojo on my end received lots of controversies though I don't know much about it.

The Best And Worst Anime Of Summer 2020

It's the opposite, in fact. Ever since the godawful conclusion to the manga, more people finding ludicrous ways to praise the series. Baffling.

Demon slayer higher than i expected and aot lower. and holy shit i didn't even expect kingdom to be on the list. maybe i should watch it.

Except for Bocchi, I watched every thing on the list. I don't believe that half of these series, with an emphasis on CSM, DS, and MP, deserve to be on the list. I love MP, but the 3rd season was far worse than the earlier seasons in many ways. Bleach's position at number one and even in the top 10 is, in my opinion, subject to debate. AOT S4, JoJo part 6 final (both of which reflect my own bias), and Kingdom S4 were my favourites of the year.
